Woman Sentenced to Prison in Peru for Discriminating Against Condominium Guard

A court in Peru has sentenced a woman to nearly two years in prison for verbally abusing a condominium security guard with discriminatory language. The incident took place in the Praderas del Rímac condominium in Lima, where the guard, who also served as a support concierge, requested the woman's electronic entry card as required by the building's regulations. The woman responded with offensive and discriminatory remarks, reportedly targeting the worker's ethnicity, race, and economic status. The verbal assault was captured on the worker's cell phone camera and used as evidence in the case. The woman acknowledged her responsibility and agreed to an expedited legal process. In addition to the prison sentence of 1 year, 11 months, and 10 days, the court ordered the woman to pay S/4,000 (approximately $1,100 USD) in civil reparations to the victim. She is also mandated to attend psychological therapy sessions focused on discrimination to avoid the sentence being enforced. Failure to comply with these conditions will result in the sentence becoming effective.
