Woman steals from Seoul store during fire evacuation

A woman was caught on CCTV stealing items from a convenience store in Seoul's Sillim-dong while residents evacuated a burning building. The incident occurred on August 2nd around 3:20 PM when a fire broke out in a four-story building. As approximately 130 people evacuated, the woman entered the store despite the owner shouting that there was a fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished around 4 PM by police and firefighters, with no injuries reported. After returning to his store, the owner reviewed CCTV footage and discovered the theft. The video showed the woman taking snacks and drinks and putting them in her bag before leaving.

The woman moved as if she knew exactly where the items were placed.

The owner believes the woman may be a regular customer, as she seemed to know exactly where the items were located. He has reported the incident to the police and submitted the CCTV footage as evidence. Online reactions have been critical, with some netizens calling her "brazen" for committing the crime without a mask and suggesting she may have stolen from other stores. Some also drew comparisons to theft incidents during the 1995 Sampoong Department Store collapse.
