Woman who confronted Kast in Villarrica faces fraud probe, national arraignment

A woman who engaged in a tense exchange with Chilean President José Antonio Kast in Villarrica has been placed under national arraignment as part of a fraud investigation. The precautionary measure was imposed during a virtual hearing, superseding an initial pre-trial detention order.

Authorities discovered the woman had two active arrest warrants from the Guarantee Courts of Iquique and Punta Arenas. The investigation centers on allegations that she, along with another individual, participated in a fraudulent scheme involving the sale of cell phones via social media. One reported victim lost 330,000 pesos after depositing funds for a cell phone that was never delivered.

The court has set a 60-day period for the investigation. A subsequent hearing is scheduled for August 27, where a potential abbreviated procedure or the statute of limitations for the case may be discussed.
