Woman who stole employer's gold gets suspended sentence after working to repay debt

A woman with a history of theft and drug offenses has been sentenced for stealing gold worth 240,000 yuan from her former employer's residence. The incident occurred in Miaoli.

The accused, identified by the surname Wu, had been released from prison less than a year prior. She used a key she possessed to enter her former boss's home and stole gold bars and rings. The stolen items were then sold for cash.

Following her arrest, Wu confessed to the crime during investigations and trial. She reached a settlement with the victim, identified as Huang, agreeing to repay the stolen money. Crucially, Wu returned to work at Huang's guesthouse, dedicating her salary to repaying the debt.

During the court proceedings, Huang pleaded for leniency, stating Wu was working diligently and was essential to her guesthouse's operations. The judge considered Wu's remorse, her efforts to make amends, and the victim's forgiveness. She received a six-month prison sentence, which can be commuted to a fine, along with a 15,000 yuan penalty, acknowledging her cooperative attitude and the victim's willingness to forgive.
