Women's Bundesliga: Returnee Simon named new captain of Bayer 04 women

Carolin Simon, a seasoned defender returning to Bayer Leverkusen after successful years with Bayern Munich, has been appointed the new captain of the Bayer Leverkusen women's football team for the upcoming season.

The 33-year-old, who transferred from FC Bayern Munich this summer, will lead coach Roberto Pätzold's squad. Simon takes over the captaincy from goalkeeper Friederike Repohl, who concluded her career at the end of the previous season. Simon previously played for Bayer Leverkusen from 2013 to 2016 and has since won five German championships with Bayern Munich.

The Bayer Leverkusen women's team will begin their new season in the Frauen-Bundesliga on Sunday at 4:00 PM, facing RB Leipzig. The match will be broadcast on MagentaSport and DAZN.
