Women's Crime in Kyrgyzstan Rises 22% in First Seven Months of Year

Law enforcement agencies in Kyrgyzstan identified 13,490 offenders between January and July 2026, marking an 11.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to a report from the National Statistical Committee based on data from the Prosecutor General's Office. The rise in overall offending is driven partly by a substantial 22% increase in female offenders, who now account for 1,899 cases, or 14.1% of the total.

In contrast, the number of male offenders saw a more modest increase of 9.8%, reaching 11,591. The report also highlights a significant surge in offenses committed by young people aged 18-24, with a 31.7% increase bringing their total to 3,003. The largest offender group remains those aged 29 and older, which grew by 13.1% to 8,428.

The socio-economic profile of most offenders indicates significant hardship, with nearly two-thirds (64.7%) being unemployed or not studying at the time of their detention. The number of employed offenders decreased by 3.3%, while the number of students and pupils fell by 22.3%.

Despite the overall rise in identified offenders, juvenile crime saw a notable decrease of 40.1%, with minors committing 572 offenses. Most of these were first-time offenses. However, crime against vulnerable groups remains a serious issue. Law enforcement registered 7,129 crimes against women and 1,262 crimes against elderly individuals, with fraud being a prevalent offense against seniors.
