Workers at seven Bishkek social institutions set to receive protective clothing

Staff at seven social institutions in Bishkek may receive special clothing under a draft resolution submitted to the city council. The proposal covers institutions that provide round-the-clock residential care to people in difficult circumstances.

The facilities include the Aidanek center for reintegrating children in difficult circumstances, the Akniet center for children, the Ardag­er gerontology center, and the Ayalzat center for women affected by domestic violence. The list also includes the Umut Uy social residential institution for older people and people with disabilities, the Ayar rehabilitation center for people with disabilities, and the Kolomto municipal institution.

Employees carry out duties that can expose them to harmful and dangerous factors. Their work includes hygiene procedures for bedridden patients, young children and people with disabilities, as well as the use of disinfectants, detergents and other chemicals. Residential care also carries a risk of infectious and parasitic diseases spreading within the facilities.

Under the law, employers must purchase and provide special clothing, footwear and other personal protective equipment at their own expense. Implementing the proposal would require an additional 4.8755 million soms from the local budget for 320 staff positions. The calculations use average market prices and minimum necessary quantities for replacement, washing and reserves, while also accounting for premature wear.
