World Champions to Headline Kaohsiung Breaking and Street Dance Competitions in August

Kaohsiung is set to become a global epicenter for street dance this August, as the city hosts a series of high-profile international competitions. Spearheaded by the Kaohsiung City Government's Sports Development Bureau and the Youth Bureau, the events aim to showcase the vibrant culture of breaking and street dance, fostering both athletic competition and cultural exchange.

The highlight of the month is the '2026 Kaohsiung Breaking International Competition,' scheduled from August 29 to 30. This event will bring together an unprecedented lineup of four world-renowned breaking champions: Phil Wizard (Olympic men's champion), Ami (Olympic women's champion), Issin (2025 Red Bull BC One World Final champion), and Shigekix (2025 WDSF Breaking World Championship winner). The competition boasts a total prize pool of NT$1.5 million and is expected to draw top talent from around the globe, underscoring Kaohsiung's ambition to become a premier breaking brand in Asia.

Adding to the excitement, the '2026 Xiong Zheng Wu Dou International Street Dance Competition' will take place from August 15 to 16, organized by the Youth Bureau in collaboration with the internationally recognized BOTY (Battle of the Year) competition. This event will feature diverse dance styles, including breaking battles, further enriching the street dance landscape in Kaohsiung.

For the first time, the Kaohsiung Breaking International Competition will be held at the Wei-Wu-Ying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts' theater, providing a world-class stage for the athletes and a premium viewing experience for the audience. The venue's embrace of street dance signifies its role as a dynamic cultural hub. Complementing the competitions, a DAZN FanZone will be set up at the Wei-Wu-Ying Banyan Plaza, offering interactive sports experiences for the public. City officials emphasized their commitment to elevating Kaohsiung's international profile through such events, fostering greater public participation in sports and culture.
