World Cup 2026 Stars Generate More Than $3.3 Billion in Transfer Fees

Players who appeared at the 2026 World Cup generated more than $3.3 billion in international transfer fees during the midyear window, FIFA said. More than 260 World Cup players from 47 nationalities moved to new clubs, accounting for more than one-third of the $9.89 billion spent on international transfers in the men’s game.

FIFA also recorded more than 12,500 international transfers worldwide, setting a new record for the number of deals in a midyear window. The spending surge followed Spain’s World Cup victory in July, with performances at football’s biggest tournament helping drive activity across the global market.

Several prominent World Cup players completed major moves. Spain midfielder Rodri transferred from Manchester City to Barcelona, while France winger Bradley Barcola moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Liverpool after the tournament.

Women’s football also reached new transfer records. International spending more than doubled to $28.6 million. English clubs led spending in both markets, accounting for $3.02 billion in the men’s game and $8 million in the women’s game.
