World Cup final features historic first halftime show with global superstars

The FIFA World Cup final stage lit up with an unprecedented halftime show, marking a historic first for the tournament. Performers like Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, and Chris Martin of Coldplay took to the pitch at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford for a spectacle lasting over 20 minutes.

Inspired by the American Super Bowl's tradition, FIFA opted to create its own musical extravaganza during the break. The show featured a dazzling array of global talent, including Brazilian football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho assisting Madonna. Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Webby Award-winning PS22 chorus also participated, alongside Sesame Street characters and drummers.

Justin Bieber expressed his gratitude for being part of the show, noting its contribution to expanding educational access for children worldwide. FIFA described the event as a significant celebration at the crossroads of sport, music, and global impact. The closing ceremony also included performances by Post Malone, Tony Bennett, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini, and iShowSpeed, with a special address from Tom Cruise emphasizing football's unifying power.

This World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, featured distinct opening ceremonies in each country. Shakira headlined in Mexico, Michael Buble and Alanis Morissette performed in Toronto, and Katy Perry, Tyla, Anitta, and Lisa appeared in Los Angeles. Previous FIFA events, like the Club World Cup final, have also featured halftime entertainment, with Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, and Tems performing in New Jersey.
