World Cup final halftime show aims to unite world through music

The upcoming World Cup final is set to feature an unprecedented 30-minute halftime show, billed as a "symbolic final of world pop music." Headlining the event are global music heavyweights Madonna, Shakira, BTS, and Justin Bieber, performing as Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal potentially vie for the championship title.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the show's role in fostering global unity during a pre-final press event, a message delivered with diplomatic weight in the presence of former President Donald Trump. "At a time when geopolitics is causing upheaval across the world, the World Cup final and its halftime show could become a formula that unites divided minds," Infantino stated.

This marks the first-ever halftime show at a World Cup, mirroring the format of the NFL's Super Bowl. The lineup deliberately brings together pop stars from different continents, aiming to send a message of global cooperation across diverse cultures and generations. Alongside the main performers, Nigerian singer Burna Boy, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and Coldplay with the PS22 Chorus are also slated to perform.

While the televised segment is planned for 11 minutes, the entire halftime break, including stage setup and removal, could extend to around 25 minutes. This has sparked debate about its potential impact on players' readiness and game rhythm, though FIFA assures no compromise on fairness or player welfare. The show also serves a charitable purpose, supporting the FIFA/Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for children's education and football opportunities worldwide. Over $50 million has already been raised, with contributions from World Cup ticket sales.
