World Cup standout Vozinha, 40, signs with Chilean champion Colo Colo

Veteran goalkeeper Vozinha, who gained international recognition for his performances with Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup, is set to join Chilean powerhouse Colo Colo.

At 40 years old, Vozinha has signed with the Santiago-based club after finding himself without a team. His previous contract with Portuguese second-division side Chaves was not renewed, leaving him a free agent. Colo Colo officially announced the signing via social media, welcoming the goalkeeper to the Estadio Monumental.

Vozinha's World Cup debut with Cape Verde, which was the nation's first appearance in the tournament, saw him shine. He was named player of the match in their opening game against Spain, where he kept a clean sheet in a 1-1 draw. The team also secured draws against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia, before being eliminated by Argentina in the round of 16, with Vozinha making seven saves in that match.

Despite being without a club, Vozinha's World Cup heroics catapulted him into the spotlight. He had previously stated that he would consider proposals based on the sporting contribution he could offer, rather than just for exposure or marketing. Colo Colo, a club with a rich history including 34 national championships and a Copa Libertadores title, will offer Vozinha the chance to compete in three tournaments: the Chilean league, the Copa Chile, and the Copa de la Liga.
