World Record Holder Mykolas Alekna Discusses Sports and Business at LOGIN Conference

Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna, a world record holder and Olympic finalist, recently spoke at the LOGIN innovation conference. He joined a panel discussion on "Sports and Business Partnership. Where are we and what are the prospects?" alongside Andrius Barakūnas, Martynas Giga, and Vaidas Lukoševičius.

Alekna, who achieved world vice-champion and European champion titles in 2022, comes from a distinguished athletic family. His father, Virgilijus Alekna, is a two-time Olympic champion. Mykolas's dedication and discipline have propelled his success in international competitions.

In April 2024, Alekna broke the world discus record in Ramona, Oklahoma, with a throw of 74.08 meters. He further improved his own record in April 2025 at the same event, throwing 74.89 meters, and then achieved a historic 75.56 meters on his fourth attempt, becoming the first person to surpass the 75-meter mark. The previous world record of 74.08 meters had stood since 1986, held by Germany's Jürgen Schult.

Despite his recent successes, Alekna is currently recovering from a serious chest muscle injury sustained in the spring while lifting weights. Even as he recuperates, no other elite discus throwers at the Ramona event could surpass his world record.

LOGIN is described as the largest and most innovative tech conference in the Baltics, attracting over 8,000 attendees. This year marks its 20th iteration, focusing on technological advancements, challenges, and future innovations.
