Writer Murat Ağırel lists Melih Gökçek’s properties as former Ankara mayor threatens complaint

A live television broadcast turned a dispute over Melih Gökçek’s property holdings into a public legal confrontation. Writer Murat Ağırel showed records on Onlar TV and listed land and buildings in Ankara and Şanlıurfa that he said were connected to the former Ankara mayor.

Ağırel referred to large plots in Pursaklar, including land measuring 8,500 square meters, another plot of 2,250 square meters and additional properties described as buildings or residences. He also listed a pistachio orchard and farmland in Şanlıurfa’s Halfeti district, saying the land there covered more than 100,000 square meters. Other properties he mentioned included residences in Çankaya and Dikmen, a 305-square-meter field in Gölbaşı and a separate home in İncek.

He said information from a neighbor indicated that Gökçek had built a house in İncek with a covered parking area and was preparing to move there. Ağırel stressed that he had not confirmed that claim directly, but said he had received videos and photographs and had submitted a request for information.

I will file the necessary criminal complaints with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office starting tomorrow morning.

Gökçek rejected all of the allegations concerning the 23 listed assets. He said an e-government inquiry through the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre showed no title records matching his national identity number. He also said he would file the necessary criminal complaints with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Ağırel responded that his claims relied on official records contained in civil case file 2019/236. He said the file was not confidential and that the information was publicly available.
