Wrong-way driver causes several crashes on Amager Motorway

An older man driving the wrong way on Copenhagen’s Amager Motorway caused several crashes on Sunday evening before police stopped him, Copenhagen police said.

We have brought a wrong-way driver to a stop. He is an older man who appears confused.

Police duty officer Rasmus Nielsen told Ritzau that the driver appeared confused. At this stage, officers had found no indication that he deliberately drove against traffic.

The man had driven from the western suburbs toward Amager. Police received the report at 8:43 p.m. They were still determining how many crashes he had caused, including one on the western side of the city and a report that a motorcyclist had been hit near a bridge.

There has at least been one traffic accident on the western side, and a motorcyclist is reportedly hit near the bridge.

The Traffic Information Center reported several crashes along the route, and police were collecting footage from cameras covering the motorway. One lane was closed while several patrols worked at the scene. Nielsen urged drivers to respect the police operation and follow any temporary speed restrictions.
