WTT Champions: Feng Yi-hsin gets a late call-up and aims for one win

Feng Yi-hsin will make his WTT Champions debut after Russia’s Kirill Skachkov withdrew from the Macau tournament because of an injury. The Taiwanese player, ranked 41st in the world, received the late replacement spot.

The 2026 WTT Macau Champions tournament begins on Sept. 8. It is the fourth Champions event on this year’s calendar and the last major tournament before the Nagoya Asian Games, making it an important warm-up event ahead of the Games.

Taiwan’s men’s entries originally included world No. 6 Lin Yun-ju and No. 39 Kuo Kuan-hung. Taiwan’s women’s team includes top-ranked player Cheng I-ching and 18-year-old Ye Yi-tian. China’s Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong are scheduled to compete, as are Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Sora Matsushima. South Korea’s team will not take part.

Skachkov, ranked 16th, produced the best run of his career at the U.S. Grand Smash in July. He defeated Germany’s Patrick Franziska, Japan’s Harimoto and Hiroto Shinozuka, and Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh before losing 4-2 to Japan’s 19-year-old top player, Matsushima, in the final. He then lost in the opening round at the Yokohama Champions and European Grand Smash events, against China’s Xiang Peng and Sweden’s Anton Källberg.

Feng, currently training at Taiwan’s Zuoying National Sports Training Center, is scheduled to fly to Macau on Sept. 6. “The opponents are all very strong, so I’ll just do my best. I hope I can win one match,” he said.
