Wukuf in Arafah: Indonesian Cleric Urges Prayers and Remembrance

As Indonesian Hajj pilgrims gather for the pivotal Wukuf at Arafah, KH M Cholil Nafis, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Pusat, has issued a strong reminder to intensify prayers and remembrance. He emphasized that the period between the decline of the sun at noon and sunset is the most opportune time for supplication.

Kiai Cholil urged pilgrims to detach themselves from worldly distractions and "gods" during this sacred observance. He highlighted the profound significance of the prayers offered at Arafah, citing a tradition that designates it as the "best of prayers."

He shared a specific supplication recited by Prophet Muhammad and previous prophets: "Laa ilaaha illallah wahdahu laa syariikalah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyii wa yumiit wa huwa ‘alaa kulli syai’in qadiir." An alternative version, omitting "yuhyii wa yumiit," was also mentioned: "Laa ilaaha illallah wahdahu laa syariikalah lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli syai’in qadiir."

These spiritual directives aim to guide Indonesian pilgrims in maximizing the spiritual benefits of the Wukuf, focusing their hearts and minds on devotion during this critical phase of their Hajj journey.
