Ximena Sariñana defended fellow singer Julieta Venegas against online criticism for her song "La niña futbolista," intended to offer a feminist perspective on the 2026 World Cup.

Venegas faced backlash, with critics arguing the World Cup is a male sporting event and that girls already play soccer. Sariñana countered that the World Cup is "for everyone and for all," emphasizing its importance as a family experience where all attendees feel secure.

"I think it's very important to communicate that the World Cup has to be a family experience, where all of us feel safe, because domestic violence increases during the matches, regardless of the results," Sariñana stated. She added that people should be made aware of these issues so Mexico can prepare for any negative consequences.
