Xinzhuang plastic factory fire rages in early morning, thick smoke blankets sky, severe air pollution

A significant fire erupted in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Xinzhuang, New Taipei City, consuming a metal-clad factory filled with plastic products. The blaze, which began around 3 a.m., quickly escalated, sending thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky, causing considerable air pollution in the surrounding areas.

The entire factory building was already engulfed in flames and a sea of fire, with the fierce flames dyeing the night sky red.

Firefighters were dispatched immediately and worked for approximately one hour to bring the fire under control. The factory, covering an estimated area of 370 square meters, was completely engulfed. Fortunately, initial reports confirmed that no one was trapped or injured in the incident.

Given the nature of the materials burning – large quantities of plastic – the fire generated toxic fumes and a strong odor that spread widely. The Fire Department issued an urgent warning to nearby residents, advising them to keep their doors and windows shut and to wear masks if they needed to go outside to mitigate the health risks associated with the severe air pollution.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Department's arson investigation unit.
