Yankees Beat Red Sox in Rivalry Opener; Panamanian Caballero Sees Action

The historic rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox reignited Friday with the first of a three-game series at the 2026 Major League Baseball season. The Yankees secured a narrow 1-0 victory, their win sealed by a solo home run from Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the third inning.

Cam Schlittler earned the win after a strong start, pitching five and two-thirds innings. He allowed two hits, struck out eight batters, and issued five walks. David Bernard recorded his 31st save of the season.

Panamanian player José 'Chema' Caballero was in the Yankees' lineup, playing third base and batting eighth. He went hitless in three at-bats, bringing his batting average to .232. In another game, fellow Panamanian Leonardo Jiménez played for the Miami Marlins against the Washington Nationals. Jiménez had no hits in three at-bats, struck out once, and walked once in the Marlins' 2-9 loss. He started at third base for Miami before moving to first base in the eighth inning.
