Yankees' Bellinger sidelined 4-6 weeks with hamstring strain

The New York Yankees are facing another setback as star outfielder Cody Bellinger has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, sidelining him for an estimated four to six weeks. The injury occurred during Bellinger's run to second base after hitting a double in a recent game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Following the incident, Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list. An MRI confirmed the severity of the strain. Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed optimism that Bellinger could still move normally, emphasizing the importance of allowing the injury to heal completely.

Bellinger, who signed a five-year, $162.5 million contract extension with the Yankees in the offseason, has been a key player this season. He has recorded 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, and a .770 OPS in 102 games. His defensive contributions have also been notable, with a Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) of 19, leading all left fielders in MLB.

This latest injury adds to the Yankees' growing list of sidelined stars. Earlier this season, MVP Aaron Judge has been out with a rib fracture since late May, and Giancarlo Stanton has been on the injured list since late April with a right calf strain. To address Bellinger's absence, the Yankees have recalled 25-year-old outfielder Spencer Jones from their Triple-A affiliate.
