Yatağan Mayor Mesut Günay Joins NEW Party

Yatağan Mayor Mesut Günay has officially joined the NEW Party, a significant move that brings the party its first mayoral representative in the Muğla province. The transition was marked by a ceremony at the Yatağan Municipality, where Günay and several municipal council members were welcomed into their new party.

Today we are here to join the NEW Party, but this is not an individual decision we made today. We made this decision after gathering with our members, then with our district management, our youth branches, our women's branches, our municipal council, and after common consultation with all the people of Yatağan, whether they voted for us or not. So, this decision is the common will of Yatağan.

Günay emphasized that the decision to switch parties was not unilateral but a collective one, reached after thorough consultations. He stated that discussions were held with party members, district management, youth and women's branches, the municipal council, and the broader public of Yatağan, including those who did and did not vote for him. "This decision is the common will of Yatağan," Günay declared.

It is not easy to leave the Republican People's Party, the home where we have put in our labor and struggled until today. I know this best myself. We carry the respect and loyalty we feel for our father's house in our hearts.

He acknowledged the emotional difficulty of leaving the Republican People's Party (CHP), his former political home, expressing deep respect and loyalty to its legacy. Günay clarified that the move to the NEW Party is not an abandonment of the CHP's heritage but an act of embracing it while moving forward. "We are not leaving our past behind, but carrying it forward by embracing it," he said, indicating a desire to uphold certain values under a new political banner.
