Yautepec Trustee Karla Herrera Faces Trial for Massacre During Mexico-Ecuador Match

A judge has ordered municipal trustee Karla Herrera of Yautepec to stand trial and imposed pre-trial detention, accusing her of involvement in a massacre that left three dead and nine injured. The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation and Prosecution of Femicide secured the ruling during a hearing in Cuautla.

Herrera faces formal charges of aggravated homicide and attempted aggravated homicide. The events in question took place on June 30 in Yautepec, where an armed group opened fire on multiple people watching a soccer match between Mexico and Ecuador. The attack resulted in three fatalities and nine wounded.

Authorities arrested Herrera on August 18 in Yautepec and immediately transferred her to the penal facility where she will remain during the legal proceedings. Three other individuals, identified as América Alejandra 'N', Eugenio 'N', and Ulises 'N', were also ordered into pre-trial detention on July 16 for their alleged roles in the same case.

The judicial authority has granted the specialized prosecutor's office two months to conclude its complementary investigation. The case highlights ongoing violence in the region and the legal repercussions faced by public officials allegedly involved in criminal acts.
