Yellow alert for extreme cold and strong winds in Argentina on Monday

Argentina's National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued yellow alerts for extreme cold and strong winds across various regions of the country for Monday, June 15. This comes as the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) experiences a marked temperature drop.

The cold alert specifically affects Buenos Aires, La Pampa, San Luis, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, and Corrientes. The SMN warns that temperatures could be "dangerous," particularly for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. Minimum temperatures might reach -2°C in southern Buenos Aires and La Pampa, while Corrientes in the north could see a low of 7°C.

To mitigate risks, the SMN recommends avoiding prolonged exposure to cold, dressing in layers, and generating body heat through movement. Keeping homes heated safely and avoiding sudden temperature changes are also advised. The service also urges people to drink plenty of fluids and avoid smoking indoors.

Meanwhile, an alert for strong winds is in effect for the southern sectors of Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. Expected wind speeds are between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour. The public is advised to avoid going out, secure loose objects, stay away from windows, and exercise caution while driving. In the AMBA, temperatures are expected to remain below 10 degrees throughout the weekend, with a minimum of 2°C and a maximum of 15°C forecast for Buenos Aires city.
