Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rain and Possible Hail in Seven Mexico City Boroughs

Mexico City authorities activated a yellow alert for heavy rain and possible hail across seven boroughs on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The alert covers Coyoacán, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco. The city’s Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection issued the forecast and safety guidance.

Residents were advised to carry an umbrella or raincoat, sweep drains clear of rubbish, and avoid pouring grease into the drainage system. The agency also suggested using collected rainwater to water plants.

Officials urged people to avoid roads with standing or floodwater and to drive carefully because fallen trees or other debris could obstruct routes. They also warned residents to keep away from walls, trees, power cables, and large signs that appear at risk of falling.
