Yellow alert issued for six communes in Ñuble region due to river flooding

Chile's National Emergency Management Agency (Senapred) has issued a yellow alert for six communes in the Ñuble region as water levels rise in the Perquilauquén and Chillán rivers. This civil protection measure is designed to ensure timely deployment of logistical and operational resources in anticipation of potential flooding near inhabited zones.

The northern part of the region is experiencing increased water levels in the Perquilauquén River. According to the Directorate General of Waters (DGA), the river's hydrometric station in San Manuel indicates a rise to yellow threshold levels, posing an increased risk to nearby populations. Consequently, Senapred has declared a yellow alert for the communes of San Fabián and Ñiquén, effective immediately and until conditions stabilize.

Simultaneously, hydrometric instruments monitoring the Chillán River have triggered alarms, extending the alert perimeter to four interconnected communes: Pinto, Coihueco, Chillán, and Chillán Viejo. The yellow threshold declaration empowers the regional emergency management system to preemptively mobilize necessary human and material resources to assist affected citizens.
