Yellow alert issued for storms, winds, and snow across Argentine provinces

Argentina's National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued yellow alerts for adverse weather conditions across multiple provinces on Sunday, August 16. Following a week of significantly lower temperatures, the SMN warned of continued challenging weather, including storms, strong winds, and snowfall.

The Andean regions of San Juan and central Mendoza are under a yellow alert for persistent snowfall. Accumulations are expected to range between 10 and 30 centimeters, with potential for higher amounts in specific locations. The SMN advises residents in these areas to follow local authorities' instructions, travel only if essential, and ensure vehicles are equipped for snow and ice. Recommendations include checking roofs and drainage systems, ventilating homes to prevent carbon monoxide buildup, and stocking non-perishable food and water.

Strong winds are forecast for La Rioja, Santiago del Estero, Salta, and Jujuy, with speeds anticipated between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour and gusts potentially exceeding 120 km/h. Residents are urged to secure or remove outdoor objects like potted plants and chairs, close windows and doors, and avoid seeking shelter under unstable structures or trees. Caution is advised for drivers.

Furthermore, a yellow alert for storms has been issued for Corrientes, Entre Ríos, and eastern Santa Fe. These areas may experience varied intensity storms, some locally strong, accompanied by wind gusts, hail, heavy short-term rainfall, and intense electrical activity. Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid accumulating trash outdoors, clear drainage systems, and disconnect electrical appliances if water enters homes.

In Buenos Aires City, the forecast for Sunday includes a maximum temperature of 18°C and a minimum of 12°C, with cloudy skies and a 40% chance of isolated showers in the morning and afternoon. The province of Buenos Aires anticipates similar conditions, with a maximum of 17°C and a minimum of 10°C.
