Yemen's Houthi Rebels Vow Support for Iran, Warn of 'Many Options'

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels declared their full alignment with Tehran on Sunday, stating they are coordinating responses to the escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran. The rebels emphasized their unwavering support for the Islamic Republic.

In a statement, the Houthi foreign ministry affirmed their backing for Iran "by all means at our disposal" as a component of the "Axis of Resistance." The ministry added that they are in constant communication to stay updated on developments and possess "diverse options" should the situation demand further action.

We are in constant coordination to stay abreast of any developments and have various options at our disposal if circumstances require.

The ministry condemned what it termed the continuous "American and Zionist aggression" against Iran, asserting that such actions would not achieve their intended objectives. It also declared that Iran holds the "full and legitimate right" to defend itself, including targeting U.S. military bases and interests throughout the region.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in late 2023, the Houthi rebels have engaged in missile and drone attacks against Israel and have targeted merchant and U.S. Navy vessels in the Red Sea. They claim these actions are taken in "solidarity" with the Palestinians. The rebels have also intensified their political support for Tehran amidst disputes over direct flights between Tehran and Sanaa, despite objections from Yemen's internationally recognized government.
