'Yemen Spider-Man' Dies After Falling into Volcanic Crater

A Yemeni social media personality, widely known as the 'Yemen Spider-Man,' has died after a fatal fall into the crater of the Harda Dam volcano. The incident occurred on Friday when the 30-year-old, identified as Al-Kāfā ibn Antars (Al-Qaqa Ibn Antar), attempted to scale the steep rock walls of the crater without any safety gear.

Antars was popular on social media for showcasing daring acrobatic stunts in online videos. A video capturing the moment of his fall has circulated widely online, showing him climbing the near-vertical crater wall before losing his grip and plummeting into the depths.

The Yemeni Civil Defense Administration reported on Sunday that their water rescue team successfully retrieved the deceased's body from the "depths of the crater." The administration characterized the weekend operation as "very dangerous" and one of the most challenging rescue missions conducted within a volcanic crater.

Rescue teams utilized climbing equipment to descend the crater's edge and a winch system to hoist the body. Divers located Antars' remains approximately 30 meters deep within the 120-meter-wide crater. The Harda Dam volcano has become a tourist attraction in recent years, notable for a hot sulfur lake at its base.
