Yeni Parti Lawmaker Slams Police Action Against Veterans' Protest

Yeni Parti lawmaker Murat Bakan condemned the police intervention against veterans and families of martyrs who had been staging a sit-in protest for 38 days in Ankara's Güvenpark. The protest was forcibly dispersed by police early in the morning.

Bakan expressed his strong disapproval of the actions taken against the demonstrators. He emphasized that the authorities cannot suppress the voices of those seeking to have their demands met. "You can close off a park with barriers; you cannot silence the voice of a veteran," Bakan stated, highlighting the persistence of their cause.

The lawmaker urged that the grievances and demands of the veterans be given due consideration. The protest, which had been ongoing for over a month, centered on issues affecting veterans and the families of those who died in service. The police action marked a significant escalation in the handling of the demonstration.
