Yilan Children's Festival adds new acts in August: Forest circus and world folk dances

The Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival is set to introduce a fresh lineup of performances throughout August, promising a vibrant cultural experience for visitors. From August 2nd to 8th, the festival will host a dynamic mix of forest circus acts and diverse international folk dances, offering a glimpse into global traditions.

This year's festival highlights include the "Insect Invasion" performance by the Sky Circus Creation Group. This act combines high-difficulty circus skills with a forest adventure narrative and environmental education elements. Through engaging performances, the group aims to guide both children and adults in exploring forest ecosystems and understanding the importance of nature conservation and sustainability.

In addition to the local troupe, the festival welcomes international performers. While groups from Mexico, the Philippines, and Slovakia continue their shows, three new international teams are joining. A Romanian dance troupe will present Eastern European culture, a group from New Caledonia will showcase Pacific Island traditions, and a Thai troupe will perform the "Khon" mask dance, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. This diverse array allows attendees to experience a wide range of folk arts from around the world.

Building on the popularity of last week's bubble party, the festival is adding a "Bubble World Show" from August 3rd to 7th. Performers will create giant bubbles, smoke-filled bubbles, and intricate "bubble-within-a-bubble" effects, all set to dynamic music for close interaction with the audience. This adds a magical element to the family-friendly atmosphere.

Complementing the performances, the festival offers free water activities on the Dongshan River. Visitors can participate in team-building dragon boat races, enjoy the thrill of sailing, or take a leisurely paddle in a canoe.
