Yobe State Expands Health Insurance and Hospitals to Boost Healthcare Access

Yobe State is significantly improving healthcare access and quality through a multi-pronged approach, according to Dr. Mohammed Goje, Acting Secretary to the State Government. He highlighted that Governor Mai Mala Buni's administration has made healthcare a major priority since 2019, recognizing that successful delivery requires more than just building hospitals.

The state's strategy integrates institutional reforms, infrastructure development, and innovative financing. A cornerstone of this effort is the Yobe State Healthcare Management Agency, established to transform how healthcare services are delivered and funded. This agency oversees the state's health insurance program, which aims to make comprehensive medical services affordable for residents.

The establishment of the State Healthcare Management Agency has transformed healthcare delivery. Through the state’s health insurance programme, residents can access comprehensive healthcare services at an affordable cost.

Goje emphasized that the health insurance program has been instrumental in reducing financial barriers to healthcare. The government has actively supported this by paying health insurance premiums for thousands of vulnerable citizens. This initiative ensures that low-income households and other vulnerable groups can access essential medical care without facing catastrophic health expenditures.

Beneficiaries enrolled in the scheme can receive treatment at accredited facilities by simply presenting their health insurance identification cards. This streamlined process aims to ensure timely medical attention and improve overall health outcomes for the state's population.
