Young families will soon be able to apply for first-home support

Young families in Lithuania will soon be able to apply for state support to buy their first home. Applications will open at 9 a.m. on September 14 and close at noon on September 18, the Ministry of Social Security and Labour said.

The program sets aside around €6 million. It is open to young families, married couples, registered partners and single parents aged up to 36. Parents applying for an additional subsidy after the birth of a third child may be up to 40 years old.

Applicants generally must not already own a home. An exception applies when an existing dwelling has more than 60% depreciation or provides no more than 14 square meters per person. The home being purchased must also be located in an eligible area and cost no more than €120,000.

Families with no children or one child can receive a subsidy of 10% of the qualifying amount. The rate rises to 12.5% for families with two children and 15% for those with three or more. The loan amount used to calculate the subsidy cannot exceed €87,000.

Applications can be submitted at a municipality, by registered mail or through Lithuania’s SPIS electronic system.
