Young Girl Shines at Taiwan's Largest Table Tennis Tournament; Event to Become International Next Year

The Beigang Mazu Cup National Table Tennis Championship, Taiwan's largest table tennis tournament, drew over 4,300 participants for its finals held at Beichen Elementary School in Beigang. The event, now in its fourth year, saw fierce competition among players ranging from first graders to high school students.

Among the participants, 6-year-old Zhuang Zhihan emerged as a standout. Despite competing against players one to two years her senior, she displayed remarkable composure and skill, ultimately securing third place in the elementary school girls' category. Her father, Zhuang Binghao, a national-level coach, noted her early talent and consistent training.

Next year, the Mazu Cup will be expanded into an international invitational tournament, inviting international table tennis players to participate.

Zhuang Binghao, who also serves as the event's executive director, announced that the Mazu Cup will be expanded into an international invitational tournament next year, aiming to attract global table tennis talent. This move signifies the growing stature of the event within the table tennis community.

Cai Yongde, chairman of the Beigang Chaotian Temple, highlighted the temple's commitment to integrating Mazu faith culture with sports. The temple has a history of organizing various national sports events, including volleyball, table tennis, and marathons, with plans for a badminton competition underway. He emphasized the goal of fostering children's sports habits and identifying new national talent, with this year's theme of "Transcendence" encouraging participants to face pressure and believe in themselves.
