Young Village Head Returns Home to Serve Community

At 26, Nguyen Ngoc Kien embodies a commitment to his rural roots, choosing to serve his community in Thuy Truong village, Dong Thuy Anh commune, Hung Yen province, over urban opportunities after graduating from university. His guiding principle is simple: "What needs to be done must be done well."

Kien's dedication is evident in his willingness to take on extra duties without additional pay. Currently, he is supporting the local youth union's summer activities and managing administrative tasks for the commune's Party Committee. He stepped into these roles because the local Youth Union lacked a dedicated official and he wanted to ensure activities continued uninterrupted.

His capabilities and enthusiasm have been recognized by local officials. Nguyen Dac Van, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thuy Anh commune, described Kien as capable, enthusiastic, and responsible, noting that Youth Union activities under his purview were always well-received. In March 2026, the Dong Thuy Anh Youth Union, led by Kien, received a commendation from the Hung Yen Provincial Youth Union for outstanding achievements during Youth Month.

Following administrative reforms that merged four communes into Dong Thuy Anh, Kien, though technically no longer holding a formal position, was identified as a key young cadre for the new commune. He was subsequently appointed the head of Thuy Truong village, which was formed by merging two smaller villages and has over 600 households and 2,000 residents.

Since taking office in July 2026, Kien has focused on tackling pressing local issues. One of his immediate priorities was addressing the persistent problem of waste accumulation in a vacant lot near the market, which had been an eyesore and a health concern for residents for a long time.
