Young wild cat rescued in Pailón, Bolivia

A tiny wild cat, just weeks old, has been rescued in Pailón, Bolivia, after being found disoriented and without its mother. The kitten, identified as a Leopardus geoffroyi, is now under the care of the Wildlife Care and Referral Center in Santa Cruz.

Veterinarian Kimberly Torrico from the Santa Cruz Governorate reported that the kitten is in good health. However, as a neonate, it requires specialized nutritional support and feeding to prevent weight loss and ensure proper development, as it cannot receive milk from its mother.

The primary goal is for the kitten to grow strong enough for potential transfer to a specialized center to complete its recovery while preserving its natural wild behaviors. The Governorate also used the rescue to remind the public that wild animals are not suitable pets and need expert care. Residents are urged to report any wild animals found in distress to a dedicated hotline so specialized personnel can intervene.
