Youth climate projects in Kumasi eligible for US$50,000 fund

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has launched the Youth Climate Action Fund, inviting young people aged 15 to 24 to apply for funding to support community-based climate solutions. This initiative, announced at the COP28 UAE Local Climate Action Summit, aims to empower youth as active participants in addressing climate challenges.

As part of a global program supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Kumasi is one of 300 cities selected for the 2026–2027 cycle. The fund provides participating city authorities with resources to establish micro-grant programs. Young people and their supporting organizations can submit project proposals that align with the city's climate action goals and demonstrate community impact.

Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, Chief Executive of KMA, encouraged eligible youth to submit proposals tailored to the Kumasi environment and focused on sustainable development. "Funds ranging from US$1,000 to US$5,000 will be provided to selected youth groups, as determined by the Selection Committee," he stated. The KMA will monitor project execution to ensure adherence to timelines and proper fund utilization.

Applications are open from July 15, 2026, with a deadline of August 24, 2026. Interested youth groups can visit the official KMA website for the application process. A previous beneficiary, Deborah Akunor Kwakye, shared her experience using the fund to transform plantain stems into paper bags and organic fertilizer, highlighting the tangible impact of the program.
