Youth found severely injured at Göttingen train station

A 17-year-old youth was discovered severely injured on a platform at Göttingen's main train station early Sunday morning, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his assault.

A witness found the teenager, who is from Eschwege in Hesse, on a bench at platform four around 7:30 a.m. He exhibited significant facial swelling and his clothing was partially covered in blood. The youth was transported to a hospital, where his condition deteriorated, requiring admission to the intensive care unit. He is currently unable to provide a statement to authorities.

Initial findings suggest the injuries were likely caused by punches or an object, with police ruling out a fall at this stage. Investigators believe the assault occurred between 3 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., with the victim possibly entering the station already injured via the eastern entrance. Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen any altercations in the Göttingen area during that time.
