Youth programme aims to strengthen democracy

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) is actively working to enhance young people's grasp of Fiji's democratic processes through a newly introduced program. This initiative specifically targets the crucial role political parties play within the nation's representative democracy.

The program, titled the Political Parties Youth Module Pilot Programme, spanned two days and was delivered via the Institute of Democracy and Electoral Education. It brought together young participants, providing them with insights into how political parties function and contribute to the democratic landscape.

Beyond education, the FEO utilized the pilot phase to gather valuable feedback from participants. This input is intended to help refine the program's content and delivery methods before its wider rollout. Young attendees received certificates upon completion, acknowledging their dedication to advancing their civic and democratic knowledge.

The FEO expressed gratitude for the support from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance in developing this pilot program. The office anticipates further opportunities to broaden civic and electoral education initiatives, reaching a larger number of young Fijians in the future.
