Yucatán leads Mexico in summer influenza cases with 96 infections

Yucatán has become the epicenter of influenza cases in Mexico during the summer vacation season, reporting 96 confirmed infections. This figure places the state at the forefront of the national tally, according to data from the Federal Ministry of Health. The health agency highlighted that vacation periods typically see a surge in respiratory illnesses due to heightened travel, family reunions, and increased mobility. The National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinanve) data confirms this trend, showing 159 cumulative cases in the Yucatán Peninsula by the end of July. Of these, Yucatán accounts for the majority with 96 cases, followed by Quintana Roo with 55 and Campeche with 8. Nationally, Yucatán's 96 cases represent 26.8% of the total confirmed infections during this off-season period. Quintana Roo, Mexico City, Tabasco, and Sinaloa are the other states with significant case numbers, with these five entities collectively holding 60.3% of all infections registered nationwide. In the last week of July alone, Yucatán reported 20 new cases, marking the most substantial weekly increase observed throughout the year.
