Yunlin House of Hope receives 16,000 kg of rice from "Generous Boss" donation

The Yunlin House of Hope faced a severe rice shortage last month, leaving its pantry bare and threatening the food security of nearly a thousand assisted families. The situation highlighted a broader trend of declining donations, both in cash and goods, impacting social welfare organizations.

In response to the crisis, Sheng Hua Food chairman Wu Yu-tien, in collaboration with the Feng Tai Cultural Foundation, donated 16,000 kilograms of organic rice. Of this, 12,000 kg was allocated to the Yunlin House of Hope, while 4,000 kg went to the Yunlin County Rice Care and Development Association. This significant contribution ensures that vulnerable and marginalized households will have rice to eat.

Ou Hou-cheng, a supervisor at the Yunlin House of Hope, explained that the center distributes two bags of rice monthly to each assisted family. With nearly a thousand families, the annual requirement is approximately 50,000 kg. Wu Yu-tien's donation alone covers one-fifth of this annual need, providing a crucial three-month supply for the families.

Wu Yu-tien stated that his business philosophy is "take from society, use for society," and he is committed to helping others with a spirit of empathy. He pledged to continue his support for those in need. Lin Jin-yang, chairman of the Feng Tai Cultural Foundation, noted that their "Every Grain of Rice Carries Heart" initiative matches donations, meaning Feng Tai contributed an additional 8,000 kg to Sheng Hua's 8,000 kg donation this year. Over the past four years, this program has donated over 100,000 kg of rice.

Chen Can-hsun, chairman of the Yunlin House of Hope, expressed profound gratitude for the timely donation, calling it a "timely rain" that averts a crisis for the families. He emphasized that the rice is organic, ensuring the children can eat safely and healthily.
