Zadar shooting: Man allegedly opens fire after argument as police seize guns and drugs

A 45-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a 57-year-old man allegedly fired at him twice following a verbal argument outside a hospitality venue in Zadar, Croatian police said.

Investigators suspect the shooting happened on Friday evening and that the older suspect intended to kill the victim. The victim was hit twice in the lower part of his body and was taken the following day to Zadar General Hospital, where doctors confirmed serious physical injuries.

Police arrested the suspected shooter and a 38-year-old man who was with him that same evening. Searches of their homes and vehicles found a pistol, about 18 grams of marijuana and two grinders at the 57-year-old’s property. At the 38-year-old’s property, officers found another pistol, 89 rounds of ammunition, about six grams of cocaine, about 282 grams of marijuana and a digital scale.

Police filed an attempted murder report against the 57-year-old and a drug production and trafficking report against the 38-year-old. Both men were handed over to detention authorities. Investigators are continuing to examine the weapons and drugs, and both suspects also face misdemeanor proceedings for violating Croatia’s law on the acquisition and possession of firearms.
