Zagreb HDZ slams city leaders for lack of Croatian flags on main square before Victory Day

The Zagreb branch of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has sharply criticized the city's current leadership, led by Mayor Tomislav Tomašević and the Možemo! platform, for the conspicuous absence of Croatian flags on the main Ban Jelačić Square. This oversight, occurring just before Victory Day, is deemed a national disgrace by the HDZ.

"In Zagreb, the Croatian flag, Operation Storm, and Victory Day must never be silenced, suppressed, or forgotten," stated Ivan Matijević, president of the HDZ's City Organization. He emphasized that August 4th marks the 31st anniversary of Operation Storm, the military and police offensive that liberated occupied Croatian territories. Despite this significant date, the central square remained bare of national symbols.

The party stressed that Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and its central square should be a place of national pride and gratitude towards Croatian defenders.

The party is demanding that the city government acknowledge and rectify this perceived slight, ensuring that national holidays and symbols are appropriately honored in the city's most prominent public space.
