Zagreb Nears End of Summer Construction Season, Major Projects Conclude

Zagreb is approaching the conclusion of its intensive summer construction season, with many significant roadworks and infrastructure projects nearing completion. Residents who have navigated detours and altered routes for months can anticipate a return to normalcy on several key thoroughfares. While some construction sites have already seen traffic restored, others are slated for completion in the coming days and weeks, with some work extending into September.

Major undertakings included the complex reconstruction of Vukovar Street and its intersection with Savska Street. This project involved simultaneous work on the water supply system, roadway, and tram infrastructure. The intersection itself was completed on schedule after just over a month of work, reopening to all traffic. However, construction continues on Vukovar Street between Ozaljska and Andrašecova streets, focusing on the roadway and pedestrian/cycling paths, alongside water main repairs, with a projected finish date in early September.

Elsewhere, the overpass at the intersection of Zagrebačka Avenue and Selska Street, under renovation since early May, is also progressing. Repairs encompass the entire structure, including the deck, damaged concrete, and bearings. While a temporary easing of traffic is expected by the end of the week with the lifting of restrictions on left turns, the full rehabilitation is a five-month project, aiming for completion in early October. On Selska Street, between Baštijanova and Zagorska, approximately 680 meters of the main water pipeline have been under reconstruction since late June. This demanding work ensures the existing main remains functional for water supply, with completion anticipated next week.

Other significant projects include the ongoing renovation of the tram line on Zvonimirova Street, from Trg žrtava fašizma to Heinzelova Street, which is nearing its end, with tram traffic partially restored. The final asphalt and ballast work is underway, aiming for completion by September 7. Residents of Sesvete can also look forward to relief as the Ljudevita Posavskog overpass, closed since mid-June, is expected to reopen by Sunday, alleviating the need for lengthy detours.
