Zagreb's Fiesta Latina brings Latin American flavors and culture to the city

Zagreb's Strossmayer Square is alive with the rhythms and flavors of Latin America for the second annual Fiesta Latina, running until August 30. The festival transforms the city center into a vibrant celebration of food, music, dance, and community, echoing the spirit of "fiesta" found throughout Latin American countries.

Eleven gastronomic and bar stands offer a culinary journey through Cuba, Mexico, and Peru. Visitors can sample authentic dishes and signature cocktails while enjoying daily live music performances. The event also includes dance, culinary, and cocktail workshops, providing an immersive cultural experience.

Among the culinary highlights is Chef Mate Janković's Cubano sandwich, a complex creation where sourcing the right bread proved a significant challenge. "Finding a baker who will bake such specific rolls for you is almost an impossible task," Janković stated, explaining the difficulty in perfecting this Caribbean classic. His Cubano costs 11 euros, with other Cuban-inspired options like Caribbean Beef Quesadilla and Havana Sweet Potato also available.

Chefs Tom Gretić and Mario Mihelj are also showcasing their expertise. Gretić offers a MexBurg for nine euros, featuring pure beef with guacamole and chipotle. Mihelj presents a variety of tacos, including Pork Carnitas, Birria Beef, and Crispy Shrimp, priced between 11 and 12 euros. Other offerings include Chicken Mole Tacos, empanadas, and Tuna Tostadas, reflecting the rich diversity of Mexican cuisine.
