Zandvoort is preparing to bid farewell to Formula 1, with the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix marking the circuit's final event on the current calendar. After a 36-year absence, Formula 1 returned to the Dutch dunes in 2021. The upcoming race weekend, scheduled for August 21-23, is the last under the existing agreement, as the promoter opted not to pursue an extension.

This final Grand Prix at Zandvoort will be the 36th Dutch Grand Prix held within the championship era, and notably, it will be the circuit's first Sprint weekend. The Sprint format introduces a compressed schedule, with teams having only one practice session before Sprint Qualifying. Saturday offers a second opportunity to adjust car setups after the Sprint race, though without additional practice time to test changes.

The circuit itself, measuring 4.259 kilometers, features challenging corners like Tarzan, a heavy-braking zone ideal for overtaking, and the steeply banked Hugenholtz and Arie Luyendyk turns. These banked corners, reaching up to 18 degrees, allow for varied racing lines but punish instability. Coastal winds and sand on the track can further impact car balance and braking, adding another layer of complexity for drivers.

The decision to conclude the Zandvoort Grand Prix was made by the promoter after discussions with Formula 1 about various arrangements, including annual and rotating schedules. While this signifies a confirmed exit from the calendar for now, it does not preclude a potential return under a future agreement. The 2026 race weekend's schedule includes first practice and Sprint Qualifying on Friday, the Sprint race on Saturday, and the main Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
