Zanzibar aims to be Africa's tech hub with upcoming international AI expo

Zanzibar is positioning itself to become a leading center for digital innovation and technological advancement in Africa, with plans to host a major international technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) expo.

The "Tech and AI International Expo" aims to attract policymakers, technology stakeholders, and investors to the island. The Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Communication, Information Technology, and Innovation, is collaborating with South Africa's Africa Business Inc and The Unique Touch company to organize the event. Minister Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga stated that the goal is to make Zanzibar a hub for creativity and digital transformation across the continent.

He emphasized that the government is actively creating a conducive environment with favorable policies and laws to support investment in the technology sector.

Edwin George, director of The Unique Touch, highlighted AI's transformative impact on business, education, and governance, stressing the importance of Zanzibar's participation in this digital economy. Samola John Chacha, Director of Innovation at the Ministry, noted that the expo will enhance skills and provide insights into Information and Communication Technology (ICT) matters for Zanzibar. Lebohang Norwana, Chief Marketing Officer at Africa Business Inc, added that Zanzibar's strategic geographic location, rich culture, and history make it an ideal venue for such international technology forums, expanding its appeal beyond tourism.
