Zelensky aims to get ballistic missile defenses, strategic cooperation during meeting with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet with US President Donald Trump, with a primary focus on securing advanced anti-ballistic defense systems and ammunition for Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized that his "number-one priority" is strategic cooperation with America to bring peace closer.

"Our schedule includes meetings with President Trump, his team, and those who can support our defense," Zelensky posted on X/Twitter shortly after arriving in the U.S. on Tuesday. His visit also includes attending the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham at the White House.

This push for ballistic missile defense comes amid reports that Ukraine is actively seeking to acquire a prototype of a European anti-ballistic system codenamed Freyja. Davyd Aloian, deputy secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, indicated that an international steering committee is preparing to assess research and development costs for Freyja. Leaders from ten European countries and numerous defense manufacturers launched an anti-ballistic coalition at a summit in Paris two weeks prior, aiming for a minimum viable product by the first half of next year.
