Zelensky Visits Serbia, Discusses Aid and Bilateral Relations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Serbia for the first time during his presidency, engaging in significant talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The meeting, which included one-on-one discussions and sessions with delegations, aimed to deepen bilateral relations.

During the visit, Zelensky expressed gratitude for Serbia's support of Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. President Vučić reiterated Serbia's commitment to the UN Charter and relevant resolutions, emphasizing respect for the territorial integrity of all UN member states. This stance aligns with Serbia's long-standing foreign policy principles.

The leaders addressed the complex security situation in Ukraine, with Zelensky highlighting a recent large-scale Russian attack involving ballistic missiles and drones that targeted energy and railway infrastructure, as well as civilian sites. He reported that the attack resulted in 13 deaths and 77 injuries.

A key focus of the discussions was humanitarian and energy support for Ukraine. Zelensky thanked Serbia for a new package of medical and energy aid and for its willingness to participate in the reconstruction of a heavily damaged Ukrainian city. Preparations for Ukraine's upcoming winter period were also discussed, with Zelensky stressing the strategic importance of energy cooperation projects with international partners, including Serbia.

Further discussions involved strengthening critical infrastructure, particularly ports and railways, and enhancing the economic and security potential of both nations. Serbia expressed interest in leveraging Ukraine's experience in railway infrastructure development to improve its own transport network. Concrete joint projects and cooperation in food security were also on the agenda. Zelensky also met with Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macuta to explore economic project opportunities, with a particular emphasis on transport cooperation, regional logistics, the Danube corridor, and integration between Ukraine, the Western Balkans, and the European Union.
