Zelenskyy speaks about possible ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined a potential timeframe for ending the war, suggesting that a ceasefire could emerge between late 2024 and summer 2027. He believes this window is crucial for diplomacy, as it precedes the U.S. presidential election cycle.

The possibility of ending the war will arise from the G20 meeting in the United States until the end of summer 2027, because after that the US presidential election process will begin. We believe that now is the most active period during which diplomacy can help end the war. This is from the end of this year until the end of summer 2027.

Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about Russian President Vladimir Putin's willingness to negotiate, stating that Putin consistently seeks to project strength and escalate conflicts rather than engage in dialogue. He pointed to previous trilateral peace talks involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia held in Switzerland in February 2026.

We believe that now is the most active period during which diplomacy can help end the war.

Ukraine, in collaboration with partners in the United States and Europe, has formulated a comprehensive plan for peace. This proposal includes provisions for a ceasefire, the establishment of a demilitarized buffer zone through equal troop withdrawal from the front lines, and the eventual withdrawal of forces. The administration of this zone would likely involve a third party.

Russian President Vladimir Putin always wants to demonstrate strength, avoids dialogue and seeks to escalate the situation to the maximum.

Zelenskyy indicated that this plan is a collaborative effort, not solely a Ukrainian initiative, and expressed optimism about its potential realism. He also mentioned that the U.S. has additional ideas they intend to share at an opportune moment. Discussions have also touched upon the possibility of separate agreements to cease attacks on energy and agricultural infrastructure, though Russia has not yet shown interest in such measures.

This is a common idea with the Americans and Europeans, and the result of discussions between the Americans, us, and the Russians. In my opinion, there is something in it that could be realistic.
